Position Description

The Director is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Advising and Personal Development Center (APDC), including program planning, assessment, budgeting, hiring and supervision, and faculty advisor development.

Duties

Supervise a team of professional academic advisors providing professional training and development. Hire, train, and supervise graduate advisors in the APDC by helping them understand best practices and keeping up with the most current information about requirements for HHS majors and University requirements. Collaborate with campus-wide partners including the Division of Enrollment Management, the Office of the Dean of Undergraduate Studies, Students First Office, and other advising offices across campus. Collaborate with Directors of Undergraduate Studies and faculty on initiatives related to academic advising and its role in student success, retention, and persistence. Develop and implement a comprehensive plan for academic advising grounded in best practices and research in advising, retention, and student success. Advise a caseload of students within the HHS APDC. Opportunity to teach a course for students exploring their life and career goals. Collaborates with the Associate Dean to analyze and evaluate academic advising functions and identify student learning outcomes and processes for assessment with the ultimate purpose of improving retention and student success.

Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit: The School of Health and Human Sciences (HHS) at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro seeks a Director for the Advising and Personal Development Center (APDC) in the Office of the Dean, to join a dynamic team of professionals dedicated to helping students identify their life and career goals as they embark on successful careers in the fields of health and human sciences. Professionals in the APDC help coach, mentor, and advise students with a focus on personal, academic, and professional success as they move toward graduation and beyond. This position is a full-time, 12-month, EPA non-faculty position that will report to the HHS Associate Dean for Undergraduate Affairs.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications

Master’s degree from an accredited institution, preferably in a health and human sciences discipline, higher education, or a related field. Minimum of five (5) plus years direct experience with academic advising programs and services. Three (3) plus years of experience supervising staff. Demonstrated leadership and management experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in serving a culturally-diverse population and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in student success. Doctorate from an accredited institution, preferably in a health and human sciences discipline, higher education, or a related field. Experience engaging in activities focused on recruitment and persistence. Classroom teaching experience with demonstrated success.
