Position Description

The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation has an opportunity for an Educational Adviser, Scholarship Programs who will provide high quality academic and career development advising to approximately 100 undergraduate scholarship recipients who are exceptional students with financial need. The Educational Adviser focuses academic advising and guidance towards the objective of supporting all scholars to thrive at our nation’s top colleges. Advisers support scholars to obtain degrees on time with strong academic performance in preparation for fulfilling professional lives. Supplementing the advising focus, the educational adviser contributes to developing resources and program activities, including content for scholar events.


Responsibilities include providing meaningful educational advising and support to new and continuing Undergraduate Transfer Scholars and College Scholars by video, telephone, email and other tools; monitoring academic performance and progress toward an undergraduate degree for scholars on her/his caseload by engaging in regular reviews of transcripts, academic course plans, semester updates, and Annual Reports; communicating scholarship requirements and responsibilities; and proactively working with students facing difficulties to utilize strategies for academic progress. Additional responsibilities include conducting 2-3 trips throughout the year to visit scholars in order to provide in-person guidance to a scholar(s) in need, promote the scholar community, connect with on-campus resources, and/or build a support network on campus; and assisting with the development and delivery of appropriate curriculum for scholars at foundation events and to identify scholars for media and videos.

Required Qualifications

Qualified candidates will have a Bachelor’s degree, with a Master’s degree in student advising, higher education, counseling or related field strongly preferred; and a minimum of three years of experience in counseling, college counseling, higher education admissions, higher education student affairs, a scholarship organization, a private foundation, and/or other relevant setting.
