Position Description

The Executive Director of Student-Athlete Support Services Office (SASSO) & Associate Athletics Director for The Office of Student Academic Success (OSAS) and the Department of Athletics is an integral member of the OSAS leadership team, a valuable partner to administration in Athletics and a thought-leader responsible for shaping the direction and services provided by SASSO. The Executive Director will foster an inclusive environment for staff, student-athletes and university stakeholders. The Executive Director’s charge is to maintain and enhance the infrastructure for student-athlete support programs to broaden and deepen student-athlete academic commitment. SASSO delivers on this purpose through targeted programming designed to enhance student-athlete academic well-being and engagement. The Executive Director is responsible for coordination of programs assisting student athletes in exploration of graduate/professional education and career plans. Reporting to the Vice Provost of OSAS/Dean of Undergraduate Education and working closely with Athletics, the Executive Director must be able to lead the day-to-day operations of a large staff located in two facilities. The Executive Director prepares and monitors annual budget and expenditures to ensure compliance with regulations, directs academic support services, advises and assigns staff to student athletes, plans and evaluates staffing needs and new program initiatives. The Executive Director also oversees human resource planning, including hiring, training, supervising, advising, and the setting and evaluation of performance goals. The Executive Director ensures the monitoring and evaluation of SASSO programs and services through targeted metrics, including, but not limited to: graduation rates, Big 10 & NCAA compliance and academic progress rates, grades & GPA, eligibility, retention rates, fund audits, participation rates, tutoring, exit interviews, climate survey, etc. The Executive Director will attend and provides information on the same to the Academic Progress and Eligibility committee/Athletic Council. The Executive Director coordinates activities across OSAS to establish and maintain the relationships with Athletics and colleges. Collaborates with athletic administrators, coaches, prospects, parents, the NCAA Clearinghouse, and SASSO staff to ensure timely and accurate preparation of admissions applications for prospective student-athletes. They will prepare reports/articles, perform research for projects, and represent OSAS in reporting academic items at meetings (coaches, Big Ten and NCAA). Additionally the Executive Director will meet with the Senior Vice President/Athletics Director, Faculty Athletics Representative, and Vice Provost of OSAS/Dean of Undergraduate Education to provide information and collaborate on initiatives/programming for student-athletes, attend conferences and training sessions, and perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
The successful candidate for this position will have demonstrated success in several areas, including: leadership, personnel management, fiscal accountability, policy creation and implementation. Must have 8-10 years of progressive work experience, and experience leading an athletics academic support organization (or similar organization); knowledge and experience with NCAA eligibility rules required; demonstrated experience and ability to work with a diverse student population and environment; strong oral and written communication skills is also required.

Preferred Qualifications

Desired Qualifications: Experience leading organizational change and performance expectations. Specific experience in academic advising is strongly preferred.
