This position reports to the Academic Services Administrator responsible for advising students in the Kate Tiedemann College of Business, who reports directly to the Director of Academic Advising Academic Advising is a unit within Academic Affairs. The Advising Center consists of 11 full time Academic Advisors (3 of which are classified as Academic Services Administrators), one director, and three Academic Program Specialists. Academic Advising serves approximately 4,000 degree seeking and prospective undergraduate students in all majors offered at USFSP.This position provides academic advising to students via one on one meetings, group meetings, telephone, and e-mail regarding choice of major, selection of classes, and understanding university policy and procedures. Evaluates transfer credit toward degree requirements and maintains students' degree audits. Participates in new student orientation. Assists with recruiting and retention efforts.
Work directly with undergraduate students to assist with choice of major, selection of courses, and degree requirements. Further assist students with State, university, and college requirements, policies and procedures.Evaluate undergraduate student transfer credit, update student degree audits, and assist students with course substitutions.Support development of class schedules by providing feedback to the college on students' needs and time conflicts that would impair student access. Support college in review of students seeking college, level, and/or major access overrides.Participation in recruiting/retention efforts.

This position requires a Master's degree in Education, Counseling or academic field directly related to the Advisor's specific responsibilities; or a Bachelor's degree in those same fields with a minimum of one year of progressively responsible experience in advising or related academic functions within higher education. Work experience may not be substituted for the Bachelor's degree requirement for this position.
Master's degree in Business, Counseling, or Student Personnel Service and one year of formal academic advising at the university level. Demonstration of extensive knowledge and experience working with degree requirements, student assessment, student retention, and advising techniques. Demonstration of active listening skills and working well with others. Experience with student information systems in a Florida public university. Experience in a university advising setting.
