Position Description

The Student Success Advisor is responsible for advising new and continuing students, with a focus on career and technical programs. The Advisor will provide support and guidance through a student’s academic journey, to include facilitating the onboarding process, major exploration, career and degree planning, course registration, support service referral, and career and transfer-out counseling in both one-to-one and group settings. This position will also work closely with other student services departments and faculty advisors in the support of student success, including regular outreach to promote student engagement with various services.

Duties

Provide academic advising to new and continuing KVCC students, including goal setting, progression planning, course registration, transfer and career review, and support referral. Assist with general office coverage for phone calls, walk-ins, and electronic communication. Assist and facilitate orientation sessions and onboarding of new students Monitor and encourage student engagement with services, resources, and opportunities. Participate in college committees, events and public functions related to student engagement and success and other duties as assigned. Kennebec Valley Community College (KVCC) is a 2-year comprehensive community college in mid-Maine serving students from Somerset, Kennebec, and Knox counties and well beyond. Qualifications:

Required Qualifications

A Baccalaureate degree is required; Applicants should have 2-4 years of related experience, preferably in a community college. Additional requirements include: excellent written and oral communication skills; strong interpersonal, relationship-building, and group facilitation skills; superior problem-solving, time management, and organizational skills; solutions-oriented with strong follow-up ability; ability to adapt to changing assignments and multiple priorities; ability to work effectively with data and ensure its integrity; computer skills to include Microsoft Office Suite are essential and would ideally include an SIS; and a positive attitude and strong work ethic in a diverse educational community setting.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree is preferred.
