The Elliott School’s Office of Undergraduate Academic Advising provides advising services to over 2,200 undergraduate students majoring in International Affairs, Asian Studies, Middle East Studies, and Latin American and Hemispheric Studies. Through individual and group advising, workshops, and programs, the Undergraduate Advising Office empowers students to develop goals, navigate academic programs, utilize available resources, and explore the field of international affairs. The Academic Advisor has primary responsibility for advising a cohort of approximately 275 diverse, talented, and purpose-driven Elliott School undergraduates from orientation through graduation. In addition to general advising responsibilities, the general advisor also will serve as liaison to one or more academic departments or student service units and can expect to participate in a committee, project group, or working group addressing issues in new student orientation, the student experience, curriculum, graduation, or advising operations. The undergraduate advising team is comprised of three general advisors, one pre-law senior advisor, three senior advisors, two assistant directors, one director, and an administrative coordinator who work in a highly collaborative and supportive work environment. Sensitivity to, and flexibility around, work-life balance is a hallmark of the Elliott School professional experience. Also core to the engagement of staff, the Office supports opportunities, both on campus and beyond, for professional development.
Advise a cohort of approximately 275 Elliott School undergraduates from orientation through graduation, including summer orientation; monitor undergraduate student progress through individual meetings and on-going email/virtual communication to review program requirements and opportunities; conduct outreach to probation students and students with Incomplete and Z grades; audit degree progress and completion, including rising senior reviews and degree clearance.
Serve as liaison to one or more academic departments or student service units; participate in a committee, project group, or working group addressing issues in new student orientation, the student experience, curriculum, graduation, or advising operations.
Represent the Elliott School Office of Undergraduate Advising at various school and University level meetings, functions, and events.
Perform other work related duties as assigned.
