Quinney College of Natural Resources seeks an Academic Advisor to guide and mentor prospective and current students in our college, with a focus on majors in the Department of Environment and Society and the Department of Watershed Sciences. We hope to fill this position with someone who can be a strong, positive, and creative student advocate and also communicate well with faculty and other stakeholders. The person in this position will advise and assist students in the development of academic plans and class schedules as well as attend to student academic inquiries, assist in the resolution of individual academic problems, and engage in proactive advising programs. The individual will be trained to provide academic advising to students and deliver advising programming to assist students in meeting their academic and career goals using the Appreciative Advising framework.

Duties

Responsibilities Typical Functions:
• Provides advising services in person, by phone, virtually, or by email.
• Provides accurate information related to curriculum, graduation requirements, and university policies and procedures.
• Creates semester-by-semester graduation plan in DegreeWorks and monitors students' progress toward their declared major.
• Provides information and strategies to utilize available campus resources and services.
• Maintains confidentiality.
• Assists students in making responsible and informed decisions impacting academic progress.
• Encourages and guides students as they define and develop realistic goals.
• Assists students to understand the purpose of higher education and the impact on life goals.
• Discusses the benefits of building a learning community, network, and support system among peers, professors, and mentors.
• Makes appropriate referrals to other University and non-university resources.
• Maintains records and documentation of advising interactions.
• Assist with college recruitment at on- and on-campus recruitment events
• Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
