Position Description

Provide in-depth, specialized, and/or comprehensive advising to faculty and students regarding class choices, curriculum options, majors, departmental and University policies and procedures, and other academic needs.

Duties

60% of time the Academic Advisor will: Maintain positive connections with faculty and staff in focus area to facilitate student connections. Coordinate communication of information related to important dates, deadlines and procedures to advisees. Monitors student progress and suggests and implements corrective actions with students encounter academic difficulties. Meets with students with academic probation suspension or academic misconduct issues. Keeps current on university and college policies and procedures, and rules and regulations to assist students in meeting academic requirements. Acts as a source of information for prospective students, and actively recruits students through participation in various university and college sponsored orientations and events.

35% of time the Academic Advisor will: Participate in new-student orientations (First-Year, Transfer, and Virtual) and presents academic information to students and families during orientation programming. Support the coordination and ongoing development of first-year initiatives including but not limited to: ACAD Student Success Programing, Bronco Social, Bronco Welcome, Discover Boise State, and Bronco Day. Opportunity to collaborate in curriculum development, classroom instruction, and programmatic assessment of ACAD 109 Assist Major Exploration and Undergraduate Transition team in outreach, services, and programming for specific student populations, including first-year, undeclared, commuter, transfers, academic at-risk, and/or international. Provide academic advising support to undeclared/exploratory students, sole associate degree-seeking students and non-degree seeking students: Advising of departmental, college, and university policies and procedures Information on degree programs and creation of optimal lower-division academic plans First-term required advising (RAD) sessions (both individual and group) Educating first-year students about academic success practices.

5% of time the Academic Advisor will: Perform other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s Degree from an accredited four-year college/university in Student Affairs Personnel, Counseling, Higher Education, or related fields and One year of academic advising experience in a higher-education
