Job Description:
To promote financial wellness and provide students with customized assistance with financial planning, the University at Albany is hiring a team of Financial Coaches to implement a new model. The addition of Financial Coaches will further the University's student success model, provide holistic financial advising to our students, and break down institutional barriers to success.
Essential Functions:
Coaching Provide individual consultations with students to help them understand their financial situation and explore options and resources tailored to specific student needs. Work with students to provide personalized counseling to navigate the complexities of financial aid applications, grants, scholarships and external funding opportunities. Assist students in real-time to address gaps in funding (for example, explaining financial aid award letters and helping students navigate evaluating specific grants or loans based on their unique financial circumstances).
Serve as a resource for assigned student cohort and their academic advisors on the following topics:
Paying for school Federal Loan programs, Private Loan options State loan/grant programs, Scholarships Money management, Credit and Debt Plan and execute a Financial Planning small group event for Welcome Week Communication and Collaboration Develop a series of Financial Planning communications to be distributed throughout the academic year. Communicate with academic advisors to monitor TAP applicable credit status. Collaborate with colleagues from financial aid, academic advisors and coaches, student accounts, first year experience, experiential learning, as part of the students Success Team. Engage with new students and families during orientation to begin the financial planning process and strategize for upcoming semesters. Assist in creation and delivery of a broader undergraduate Financial Planning program through FYE seminars and programming.
Administration:
Utilize EAB appointment campaigns to target specific student populations (ex: students who have not submitted FASFA, students pulled for verification, students who received refund checks, etc.) Maintain thorough documentation of interactions, interventions, outreach, and case management. Track milestones for assigned cohort. For example: Summer -- TAP completion verification, Loan acceptance, Gap planning Fall - FAFSA, Foundation scholarship applications, On-campus employment, Academic standing/GPA decline Spring - Acceptance/disbursement monitoring, Late payment/collections monitoring, financial planning for year 2, Finalize FAFSA and TAP
Additional Information:
Salary Range: $63,000 - $65,000

Duties
The Financial Coach team will: Provide proactive case management with a focus on assisting students in the development of comprehensive financial plans that span the duration of their enrollment. Collaborate with campus partners to improve the referral process and create a more seamless student experience. Engage in proactive communication with students via EAB for key milestones and deadlines throughout the semester and review and updates individual student financial plans as necessary.
