Publications Advisory Board

Mission:

The Publications Advisory Board (PAB) oversees the recommendation of topics to offer NACADA members a wide variety of high quality print-based materials that provide professional development and promote and advance the field of advising in the larger academic community.

Function:

PAB members review and comment on current (but older) print-based materials as well as review proposals for new publications. Most reviews occur between February and July. The PAB also advises the Executive Office on advising topics that could benefit from print-based materials.

Membership:

The PAB is composed of current NACADA members who read and/or write for NACADA publications. Members serve a two-year term and meet yearly at the NACADA annual conference. Those interested in becoming a member should contact the PAB chair (email link below) or publish@ksu.edu.

As the advisory board charged with the recommendation and review of NACADA publications, the NACADA Publications Advisory Board strongly endorses and encourages the use of inclusive language across all publications from the association. We adhere to the bias-free language guidelines included in the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, 7th edition. In our work toward a shared goal of diversity, equity, and inclusion, publications must include inclusive language that values and supports the diverse communities within advising and higher education. Inclusion is a key condition for the success of students, the advising community, and higher education. As academic advisors, scholar-practitioners, and scholars, we recognize that language, identity, and power matter when creating inclusive publications, and we welcome critical literature that will challenge the field of academic advising through this lens. As the Publications Advisory Board, we will strive to make the NACADA publications an equitable platform for authors, reviewers, and readers.
