Advising Communities

NACADA Advising Communities provide members the opportunity to engage with other professionals in areas such as similar institution types, academic areas, interests, or student populations.  All current members can join up to 4 Advising Communities.  All Communities are involved in:

  • Advancing NACADA’s strategic goals
  • Proposing and facilitating professional development activities around Community topics to engage members
  • Providing resources to advance the professional development of members while focusing on the specific area of the Community

Best Practices for Advising Adult Learners on Academic Probation

When Adult learners start college or return after a hiatus, they may struggle to adjust to the rigor, technology, and/or fast-paced nature of academia. These struggles may result in a low GPA and sometimes even dismissal from their program or institution. When Adult Learners are first put on this probationary status or are readmitted after dismissal is when they need their advisors most. Join the Adult Learners & Probation/Dismissal/Reinstatement Issues communities in a panel discussion on best practices in advising these students.
