Applying Appreciative Advising Discover and Dream Techniques to Support Student Success

two people talking

December 10, 2024 - 1:00 PM CT

Appreciative Advising is a proven approach to use when working with students, but how do you apply the theory to real-life advising? This interactive and energetic webinar will explore the Discover and Dream phases of Appreciative Advising in more depth. Focusing on just two of the Appreciative Advising phases gives participants an opportunity to deepen their understanding of the phases and how to use them within any advising approach. Using entertaining video clips, group discussion, and real-life practice, we aim to help advisors improve their Discover and Dream techniques. This will include a visualization exercise led by a somatic practitioner and opportunities to reflect on your own accomplishments and success. While this webinar is focused on Appreciative Advising, we believe the skills taught have broad application for all advisors and students.

What You'll Learn:

 - Understand the Discover and Dream phases of Appreciative Advising, including their connection to student success
 - Apply a variety of techniques from the Discover and Dream phases in student appointments as appropriate and needed
 - Address challenges that may arise when implementing the Discover and Dream phases with students
 - Practice an embodiment of mindfulness techniques to enhance cognitive aspects of the Discover and Dream phase
