Reporting to the Assistant Dean of Academic Success in University College, the LEAP Coordinator oversees all aspects of the Learning Excellent Academic Practices (LEAP) Program, Winthrop University’s intensive academic support program designed to ensure the first-year success of provisionally admitted and academically vulnerable undergraduate students.
Counsels LEAP program participants on academic questions and concerns, such as advising and registration, academic performance in courses, development of success strategies and learning skills assessments. Coordinates all aspects of LEAP-required study hall operations, including securing rooms, staffing and monitoring study halls two evenings a week, and hiring and overseeing tutors. Plans and executes efforts to welcome LEAP and prospective LEAP students to campus. Coordinates with other divisions within University College to provide various forms of student support and education. Teaches LEAP sections of ACAD 101 as needed and works with the ACAD director to ensure LEAP-specific ACAD sections are appropriately scheduled and staffed. Knowledge of student learning/development theory and best practices. Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to coordinate multiple activities simultaneously. Strong analytical and data/file management skills. Ability to exercise discretion when dealing with confidential information; effectively hire, train and manage student employees; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff and administrators. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Sufficient technical ability to master required software and perform job duties at a high level.
