Position Description
Are you interested in advising undergraduates as they pursue research, other forms of experiential learning, and applications for major national fellowships? Are you an effective communicator who is adept at offering workshops and providing written feedback on applications for grants and fellowships? Do you want to work in a close-knit, student-centered environment that aims to help undergraduates do good in the world through scholarly engagement?If your answer to these questions is “yes,” then we encourage you to apply to become the Student Engagement Program Coordinator in the Flatley Center for Undergraduate Scholarly Engagement (CUSE). Previous advising experience is preferred, though we are happy to train someone who has the appropriate skillset.

Duties
The Program Coordinator will have three major responsibilities: (1) Collaborate with the director of CUSE to administer a portfolio of national fellowships. This will involve refining and implementing recruitment strategies to reach these populations, intensive advising and application feedback, and administering internal endorsement, nomination, or evaluation procedures. (2) Collaborate with the CUSE team on scholarly engagement advising. This will include workshop presentations on getting started in research and how to secure grant funding. It will also include one-on-one advising with students to provide feedback on grants proposals and to discuss how to pursue their research interests. (3) Collaborate with the Assistant Director for Student Engagement to coordinate efforts related to data analysis, marketing, and communication for CUSE.The Program Coordinator will also collaborate with the rest of the CUSE team on Center-wide efforts, such as the Sorin Scholars honors program.

Additional Information

The anticipated start date for the position is February 3, 2020, though earlier or later start dates will be considered. Funding is available through CUSE for professional development through the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA), the Council on Undergraduate Research (CUR), and the National Association of Fellowship Advisors (NAFA).

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in hand by the anticipated start date.The successful candidate must be able to effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously with minimal supervision, including excellent organizational and time management skills along with meeting deadlines and prioritizing time-sensitive tasks. The ideal candidate must also possess the ability to effectively and professionally engage with a variety of constituencies, including students, alumni, faculty, staff, fellowships program officers, and benefactors. The candidate must have a demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion. Highly effective oral and written communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills are essential. The abilities to provide excellent written feedback to grant and fellowships applicants and engaging outreach presentations to large groups of students are important.The Program Coordinator must be willing and able to contribute to a collegial, collaborative, and dynamic work environment. Ability to exercise a high degree of diplomacy, discretion, and confidentiality is vital. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and web-based application interfaces is also necessary. Basic familiarity with website maintenance and social media tools is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications
Graduate degree in hand by the anticipated start date is preferred. In addition, the preferred candidate will have at least one year of undergraduate advising or teaching experience and some international academic experience (e.g., study abroad, international research, international English teaching). Previous experience with national fellowships as an applicant, recipient, and/or advisor is also preferred, in addition to proficiency with social media administration (e.g., Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn).
