Position Description
MSU strives to provide a flexible work environment, and this position has been designated as remote-friendly. Remote-friendly means some duties can be performed remotely as mutually agreed upon. However, this position has a regular in-person expectation that includes occasional required evening and weekend activities to support programming throughout the year. The team implements a strategy that focuses on intentional advising consistent with the Honors College’s ethos of curricular flexibility and academic enrichment. In addition, all Honors College advisors support student services efforts with special emphasis on specific populations of Honors College students (e.g., international students, underrepresented students, and first-generation students).
Duties
-Provide intensive student academic advising to empower students to develop academic plans that address their needs including consulting on substitutions for university requirements, identification of opportunities for advanced coursework and creative supplements to traditional academic pathways (e.g., advanced coursework, honors options); - Monitor student progress toward university and Honors College degree requirements using online records systems and maintaining thorough and consistent electronic notes; - Partner with advisors, faculty, staff and instructors in departments and units across campus to support honors work and identify curricular and cocurricular opportunities for honors students; - Support the development and implementation of diversity, inclusion and belonging initiatives for Honors College students in collaboration with other staff; - Partner with advisors, faculty, staff and instructors in all departments to support honors work and identify curricular and cocurricular opportunities for honors students; - Advise incoming students during the New Student Orientation (NSO) program; - Incorporate holistic advising practices to support Honors College students in developing a curricular, cocurricular and personal development plan that addresses student needs and help them achieve their goals. - Participate in admissions recruitment and reviews, scholarship administration and outreach activities. - Support the development and implementation of diversity, inclusion and belonging initiatives for Honors College students in collaboration with other staff. - Additionally, this position may require teaching. Potential course offerings include seminars for first-year students, student leadership courses, and/or related content.

Required Qualifications
- Master's Degree
- Experience advising students in higher education context.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion through advising and/or programming.
- Experience providing support services and coordinating cocurricular opportunities for undergraduates from diverse backgrounds.
- Experience developing collaborative relationships across campus or similar organizations.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, verbal/written presentation.
- Excellent computer skills including database management, electronic record-keeping, and interactive web applications.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience advising high-ability college students.
- Experience collaborating in an academic context, especially with faculty, instructors and advising professionals.
- Familiarity with MSU programs, curriculum, student academic policies, and procedures (including MSU’s Student Information System).
