GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Rooted in the core mission of academic advising and holistic support of FSU students, the Academic Advisor serves as a key member of the advising team, combining traditional academic advising responsibilities with a strategic focus on registration outreach and student success initiatives. This position provides academic advising to an assigned caseload of students while developing and implementing proactive and reactive strategies to support registration and student persistence. The role includes collaborating with campus partners to identify and support at-risk students, hosting registration-focused events, and using data to inform targeted outreach efforts.

Duties
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Academic Advising
- Provide holistic academic advising to a caseload of primarily undeclared undergraduate students, supporting academic, career, and personal goals.
- Assist students with course selection, understanding degree requirements, academic planning, and navigating university policies and procedures.
- Assist with new student advising and registration each summer
- Collaborate with the advising team to leverage advising and registration data to inform strategic communication and outreach efforts.
College Liaison Responsibilities
- Act as the primary advising liaison for one of the University's four colleges (either Business or Arts & Humanities).
- Develop comprehensive knowledge of the college's programs, academic policies, and curriculum requirements.
- Build and maintain professional relationships with faculty and departmental staff to support advising and student success.
Data-Informed Outreach and Assessment
- Track and report on registration trends, outreach outcomes, and student engagement to inform continuous improvement.
- Contribute to departmental assessment and reporting efforts
Serve in one of the following Roles as part of the Advising Center Team:
- Social Media and Communications
- Manage the advising center's digital presence, including maintaining and updating the website and SharePoint sites to ensure accurate and accessible information for students, faculty, and staff.
- Oversee the advising center's social media strategy and content, creating engaging posts, announcements, and campaigns to promote advising services, key deadlines, and student success initiatives.
- Assist with developing student-facing materials and resources, including digital and print guides, instructional videos, and FAQs to support advising, course registration, and academic planning.
- Collaborate with campus partners to enhance outreach efforts, ensuring clear and effective communication of advising services, events, and initiatives across multiple platforms.
- Registration Outreach and Support
- Coordinate campus-wide advising and registration communication efforts, ensuring timely and effective outreach by collaborating with campus partners and following up on key communications during the registration period.
- In collaboration with departments across campus, use data to identify students who are eligible but not registered for upcoming semesters and implement targeted outreach campaigns.
- Develop and execute proactive registration support initiatives, such as workshops on using Student Schedule Planner, navigating DegreeWorks, and understanding the registration process.
- Provide direct support and address barriers to registration by assisting students with troubleshooting registration challenges, including holds, course availability, and scheduling conflicts, while working with campus partners to identify and resolve systemic barriers.
Additional Duties
- Participate in advising team meetings, training, and professional development opportunities.
- Assist with campus-wide advising and registration events, including admissions open houses, orientation, and first-year registration.
- Support additional departmental initiatives as assigned.
WORKING CONDITIONS: This position requires the ability to work in a collaborative office environment, with frequent periods of sitting at a computer for extended periods to perform advising, data analysis, and outreach tasks. The role may also require occasional lifting and carrying of materials, such as event supplies or registration resources, weighing up to 15 pounds. Additionally, some evening or weekend hours may be required to support advising and registration events.

Additional Information: This is a full-time, exempt, benefits-eligible position in the Association of Professional Administrators (APA) bargaining unit with a union title of Staff Assistant, The Advising Center. The starting salary is anticipated at $55,000. These are grant-funded positions, and ongoing employment is subject to continued grant funding. Required Qualifications
- Master's degree in student affairs, higher education, counseling, or a related field. A Master's degree in a non-related field and related work experience may be substituted.
- Experience developing and implementing proactive advising or outreach initiatives.
- Experience in academic advising, student affairs, or a related field in higher education.
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to analyze and use data to inform decision-making.
- Commitment to supporting diverse student populations, including first-generation and underrepresented students.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of, and willingness and ability to learn, technologies that support delivery of advising such as Banner, Starfish, Ellucian DegreeWorks, Microsoft Office Suite, and Zoom
- Effective communication skills in writing, speaking and listening
- Great attention to detail, particularly in record-keeping of student-advisor-faculty interactions; understanding of FERPA as it pertains to working with various constituents.
- Appreciation for, and understanding of, the challenges faced by various groups that comprise Framingham State University's diverse student population; ability and willingness to participate in ongoing training and reading to keep current on political, economic, sociocultural developments in order to address the holistic needs of FSU students.
- For Social Media and Comms: Experience managing social media platforms for an organization, preferably in higher education.
- Familiarity with student engagement strategies and digital communication best practices.
- For Registration and Outreach:
- Familiarity with student retention strategies and at-risk student support.
- Proficiency in coordinating large-scale communication campaigns, including email, phone, and text outreach.
- Problem-solving skills to assist students with registration barriers such as holds, scheduling conflicts, and course availability.
