Position Description

Serve as an academic and career advisor that will facilitate the admissions, recruitment, and advising of students in the Online Business Program in the Heavener School of Business. This includes traditionally admitted students and those admitted via n the UF Online Ready admissions pathway.

Duties include, but are not limited to working with prospective students, delivering orientations, assisting with registration, monitoring academic progress, coordinating commencement activities, and serving as an academic/career advisor to online business students in the Heavener School of Business. The position requires regular contact with current and prospective students in a variety of communication formats (virtual appointments, phone, email, and social media platforms). The position is fully remote and will require occasional visits to campus for certain meetings, trainings, and/or teaching responsibilities. Occasional travel to local colleges for recruitment efforts may be required. Applicant must reside in the Gainesville, Florida area.

Duties

Advising

  • Provide academic and career advising to online business students via Zoom ©, web, email, and telephone.
  • Assist students with identification of academic and career plans, and long-term academic and career goals.
  • Monitor academic progress, including probation, honors, and tracking progression through degree requirements.
  • Serve as liaison to other key student services offices at UF (e.g., UF Online OneStop, Admissions, Registrar, Financial Services, Financial Aid, Disability Resources, Bookstore) for online business students.
  • Utilize UF’s student services databases and student records systems (e.g. myUFL, Compas, Canvas)
  • Advise online business students within the UF Online Ready student cohort during the fall, spring, and summer terms.
  • Create and manage a data tracking system for each student in the UF Online Ready cohort.
  • Create and implement assessment strategies to strengthen retention within the UF Online Ready cohort.
  • Liaise with faculty of students within the UF Online Ready cohort to ensure ongoing and continued support.
  • Collaborate with UF Online and Heavener School of Business admissions teams when necessary.
  • Serve as liaison to other key students’ services offices at UF (e.g., Admissions, Registrar, Financial Services, Financial Aid, Disability Resources, Bookstore) for online business students. Admissions
  • Work closely with Associate Director of Advising & Admissions to coordinate transfer admissions process
  • Utilize applicant management database (SLATE) for application review, decision, and communication to students.
  • Collaborate with UF Admissions, UF Online, and UF International Center within SLATE.
  • Collaborate with Heavener Admissions Officer for campus based students to ensure policy and procedural alignment with Heavener campus-based transfer admissions where appropriate. * Review UF Online applications and determine UF Online Ready program eligibility • Respond to admissions inquiries via phone, email, and Zoom ©.
  • Maintain admissions database and provide regular statistical reports to Associate Director of Advising & Admissions.
  • Manage admissions information on Heavener School of Business and UF Online website for the UF Online admissions content.
  • Travel to local Florida colleges for student recruitment programs.
  • Develop marketing and promotional materials, as needed. Administrative Tasks.
  • Facilitate and/or participate in regularly scheduled administrative tasks such as online team and Heavener team meetings, quarterly evaluations, student petition reviews Service & Development
  • Serve on college-level and campus-wide student support teams and committees (e.g. University Advising Community, UF Online Advising Circle)
  • Seek out, facilitate, participate in, and report back on professional development opportunities

Miscellaneous

Assist with overall mission of the Heavener School of Business (HSB), Experiential Learning Department (ExL), or Warrington College of Business. This may include:

  • Teach one or more Warrington Welcome (GEB2015) sections annually
  • Assist with Experiential Learning or Heavener School of Business programs (e.g. awards banquets, educational sessions, program facilitation, etc.)
  • Participate in and support various events for online and on-campus business students, including University commencement ceremonies.
  • Act as a faculty advisor to online business student organizations when possible
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of the Heavener School of Business, Director of Online Programs, or direct supervisor.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications

Master’s degree in education, counseling, or an academic field directly related to the advisor’s area of responsibility and one year of relevant experience; or a bachelor's degree in education, counseling, or an academic field directly related to the advisor’s area of responsibility and two years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Prefer experience in the field of education, counseling, psychology, or a related area.
