Position Description

The mission of Cornell Career Services is to empower students to identify their strengths, interests, and values; discover and explore possibilities; gain experience; and develop strategies for pursuing diverse career paths and making mindful career decisions. We offer an array of career-development activities that inspire students to gain confidence and establish a foundation upon which to build their careers over a lifetime.

Duties

In this role you will:

• Play a key role in preparing students and alumni for highly competitive national fellowship application processes.

• Provide advising focused on intellectual wayfinding and iterative feedback meant to push applicants to high levels of reflection and expressive competence.

• Work closely with Career Services colleagues and faculty throughout the University to recruit a competitive and diverse pool of applicants for national fellowship competitions, with special attention to first-generation, limited-income and underserved students.

• Expected to be a visible presence on campus and highly visible among prospective applicants, demonstrating an investment in knowing students directly and inviting them into conversations about their experiences, strengths, and aspirations.

• Report to the Director of Student and Campus Life Career Initiatives and Employment Experiences, this team will maintain active participation in conversations with foundations awarding the scholarships, NAFA and the Ivy+ Fellowships group.

• Play a key role in campus network building to expand reach and awareness for the program. Success in this role will require outreach, relationship building and active partnerships with colleagues who work directly with high-achieving students and can refer these students to the fellowships program.

• Build strong relationships with academic colleges and departments to establish strong faculty connections for administering the fellowship endorsement committees and advising students in the application process.

• Able to prioritize and manage multiple projects with firm deadlines and keep pace with established deadlines.

• Strong ability to maintain confidentiality.

• Willingness to work some evenings/weekends as required for events and programming.

Additional Information

Salary range: $69,728 to $73,214 In addition to salary, we offer an exceptional benefit package (equivalent to another $21k)

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications

• Master’s degree plus three years related experience including national fellowships; advising undergraduates, either academic or career; study abroad advising or supportive academic programs.

• Proficiency in Microsoft suite, Google tools, Zoom, Adobe suite, database and online application management.

• Able to work effectively in range of modalities (virtual and in-person) and competence in technology tools to support application management.

• Skilled and confident writer with excellent verbal, and interpersonal skills, emphasizing accuracy, attention to detail, and the ability to convey information using a high degree of reasoning and keen analysis.

• Demonstrated experience establishing collaborative partnerships across the institution, and particularly with faculty and academic units.

• Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing.

• Proven experience connecting diversity, inclusion, and wellbeing practices to business goals.

Preferred Qualifications

• Doctoral degree or other terminal degree

• Previous experience managing prestigious fellowships.

• Strong knowledge of nationally competitive fellowships, either as an advisor, recipient, or participant
