Position Description
Elmhurst University welcomes applications for an Assistant Director in the Office of Advising. The Assistant Director is a full-time position that reports to the Director of Academic Advising in support of the University’s undergraduate academic advising program. The advising model features faculty as primary advisors with supplemental support from professional advisors. The position assists the Director in developing and implementing advising initiatives and training, supporting faculty and academic advisors, and collecting and assessing data to inform advising practices and coordinated care strategies using EAB Navigate. The Assistant Director maintains an advising caseload, participates in First-Year Seminar (FYS), and uses evidence-based practices to enhance academic advising services.
Duties
Assists Director in offering undergraduate student advising services, ongoing training and development for faculty and academic advisors, implementation and review of policies and procedures, and development of online and print materials. Oversees efforts related to specific student groups, including high-support students, students on academic probation and reinstated students to enrich the student experience and improve retention, persistence and graduation rates. Works with campus stakeholders (Registration and Records, the Learning Center, Access and Disability Services, and pre-professional advisors), deans, department chairs, and program directors to ensure coordinated efforts, efficient communication, strategic and targeted outreach, and comprehensive student advising services with the goal of integrated, holistic advising that fosters a sense of belonging and supports student success. Creates and offers programming (e.g., group advising sessions, advising workshops, co-sponsored events, etc.) for both advisors and students and contributes to the development and design of materials and resources. Serves as a subject-matter expert regarding the Elmhurst University Integrated Curriculum, including writing, mathematics, and language proficiencies, Areas of Knowledge and Skills and Value Development course requirements, and experiential and capstone requirements. Runs and requests reports and uses data and research to develop, refine, and assess the advising program to ensure efficient procedures, uniform advising practices and standardized reporting across campus. Monitors quality and volume of advising and capacity to ensure student success. Works with the Advising team and campus stakeholders to communicate and solve barriers to advising, access, and equity; and advocates for needed resources. Prepares and coordinates reports, student lists and communication for relevant University committees and advising-related processes, including Academic Review Board (ARB) and Summer Orientation, and Advising and Registration (SOAR) Committee. Leads or serves on committees and working groups related to advising, retention, and the student experience; and represents the Director and/or Advising Office in assigned capacities. Contributes to policies and procedures to support transitional advising services to improve and facilitate student handoffs, especially as students transition from FYS to faculty advisors in the major. Assists in the scheduling, planning, and facilitation of summer advising dates for incoming first-year and transfer students.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in education, psychology, counseling or relevant discipline. Familiar with learning and study strategies. Ability to effectively engage with postsecondary students of diverse ages and backgrounds. Analytical, problem-solving, team building and conflict-resolution skills. Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in student success and a proven ability to work with a diverse group of students, staff, and faculty. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree. 2 – 4 years academic advising experience within higher education (or related experience). Experience working in EAB Navigate, Informer, Ellucian Colleague, and Technolutions Slate. Project management experience. Member of the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA) and ILACADA (Illinois Academic Advising Association).
