Position Description
Job Title: Senior Director of Advising Department: Student Affairs Reports to: Dean of Enrollment Services Summary The Senior Director of Advising works within the Student Affairs Division and assists the college in meeting its strategic goals, including supporting student momentum. The Senior Director works closely with others in Student Affairs as well as Academic Affairs and College Leadership to implement the institutional vision for strong student engagement, retention, and completion strategies. The Senior Director of Advising manages a team of 12 academic/pathways advisors and support staff in the delivery of advising services for students pursuing degrees, certificates, and credentials in both transfer and workforce programs of study. The scope of work within the advising area includes developing and assessing the strategies for the institution’s pathways advising model; developing and implementing relevant trainings; supervising, hiring and coordinating training for all advising staff; directing advising staff during the registration cycle and during peak advising periods; and ensuring consistent and quality communication with the students to promote student success. The Senior Director of Advising reports to the Dean of Enrollment Services.
Duties
• Supervise, hire, motivate, and train advising staff. Support advising staff during peak advising periods to ensure high-quality and consistent advising that is aligned with the college mission to promote student success and completion.
• Oversee all activities related to advising and transfer at the college, including advising caseload management and coordinating transfer programming with 4-year college partners.
• Deliver consistent and accurate advising and transfer information to students as well as staff/faculty to ensure that all information is consistently updated and disseminated.
• Provide vision and strategic direction in planning, managing, and assessing advising and transfer initiatives.
• Facilitate communication and collaboration between the Vice President for Student Affairs, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Workforce Development, Deans, Program Managers, College Leadership, and all departments to coordinate and support advising efforts and create a positive environment conducive to implementing and maintaining a comprehensive, internally supported academic advising program.
• Work with Student Success staff regarding the planning, tracking and analyzing of the PVCC early alert system for students.
• Coordinate new student orientation with the Outreach and Admissions Department.
• Utilize the EAB Navigate360 platform to improve advising services delivery and monitor overall program effectiveness.
• Provide support in preparation for college accreditation, including developing documentation and assisting in site visits.
• Oversee the college’s work with veteran and military-affiliated students, including supervising the PVCC Veterans Advisor and serving as the point of contact for the Veterans Administration (VA).
• Collaborate with the Director of Marketing and Media Relations to promote advising services and initiatives. Serve as content contributor for the college’s advising webpage and auxiliary materials.
• Partner with Academic Affairs, Outreach and Admissions regarding Credit for Prior Learning (CPL) initiatives.
• Perform other duties as required and/or assigned by supervisor.
