The role of a NACADA Consultant and Speaker varies and can include being hired to perform program reviews, facilitate workshops, and deliver keynote addresses. We need your expertise to increase the impact NACADA has on the profession of academic advising, to empower institutions, and to support student success.

What should I expect?

  • You will be assigned a Mentor who will assist you in learning the NACADA Consulting program review steps, including preparation work, what to expect during the on-campus visit, and institutional report writing.
  • For your first couple of program reviews, you will be paired with an experienced consultant. This individual will provide hands-on guidance through the process, as outlined by your Mentor.
  • Following your introductory reviews, you will work with one or two other consultants for the program reviews, which are typically scheduled for two on-campus days. Program reviews can also be conducted virtually upon request.
  • Speaking engagements can range from delivering a keynote address, to conducting a workshop session, to facilitating professional development training, etc.
  • Consultants and speakers receive an honorarium for their services and are reimbursed for travel expenses.

How do I apply?

First, gather all your required application materials. Please be aware that the application will not be saved, so have ALL necessary documents ready to upload when you apply.

As part of the application process, you’ll need to gather the following:

  • Curriculum Vitae or Resume which includes your experience and expertise in the following:
    • Program reviews/evaluations, advising administration experience, leadership roles, etc.
    • NACADA involvement at all levels - presentations, leadership, publications, etc.
    • Other applicable skills, experiences, and expertise
    • Employment History
  • One-page statement of your Philosophy of Academic Advising which aligns with the NACADA Mission and Goals
  • Evidence of Areas of Expertise, such as: sample workshops, PowerPoint or other presentation, video of a speaking engagement, evidence of an academic advising program review/consultation, other writing samples or publications, syllabi of taught courses, consulting/accreditation peer reviewing, program review for your campus or accreditation visit, etc.
  • Evaluations received as feedback from teaching, presenting, speaking, or consulting-related events (virtual or in-person) at the local, regional, state, national, or international level.
  • Two Letters of Recommendation, solicited from those who have direct knowledge of the applicant’s expertise, education, knowledge of academic advising, written and communication skills, and the ability to conduct a review or deliver a presentation.

Third, your application will be reviewed and scored against the following rubric. Please allow up to 4 to 5 weeks for your application to be processed and reviewed. You will be notified by email of the Application Reviewing Committee’s decision regarding your application.
