Position Description
Description The School of Engineering at the University seeks a dedicated and dynamic Academic Advisor to guide students in achieving their academic goals. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to student success, providing comprehensive academic advising, supporting student retention and recruitment initiatives, and collaborating with various campus resources.
Duties
Key Responsibilities:
- Academic Advising: Meet with current and prospective students to deliver accurate and up-to-date information on undergraduate curricula and program requirements. Assist students in short-term and long-term academic program planning to ensure a timely graduation. Guide students through the course registration process, including adding and dropping classes.
- Student Support: Provide assistance to students experiencing academic difficulties by offering strategies for improvement and connecting them to relevant resources. Address personal challenges by referring students to appropriate offices within the School of Engineering and the University.
- Retention and Recruitment: Actively participate in retention and recruitment activities, including high school visits, community college outreach, career fairs, and on-campus events such as Engineering Explore Day and Transfer Visit Days. Engage in activities that promote the School of Engineering and its programs to prospective students.
- Administrative Duties: Maintain accurate computerized and in-office student records, ensuring compliance with university policies. Assist in the graduation evaluation process, verifying students’ academic progress toward degree completion.
- Communication and Information Dissemination: Keep students informed about curriculum changes, important academic dates, and deadlines. Promote campus-wide student success resources and facilitate student access to these services.
- Additional Responsibilities: Participate in departmental meetings and contribute to the development of advising practices and policies. Undertake additional tasks as assigned to support the mission and goals of the School of Engineering.

This position does not offer work authorization sponsorship. International students at SIUE on F-1 or J-1 visas are not eligible for full-time or part-time civil service positions with permanent status.
