Position Description
The College of Arts & Sciences at Kansas State University seeks a dedicated, student-centered Academic Advisor to support programs in the Department of Psychological Sciences. This role involves guiding students in course selection, academic planning, and career development while fostering self-understanding and personal agency. The ideal candidate will demonstrate patience, enthusiasm, and a sincere commitment to student success.
Duties
- Advise caseload of students in Psychological Sciences on academic requirements, course selection, and graduation plans
- Assess student needs and make appropriate referrals Interpret program and university policies and procedures
- Provide clear, accurate, and timely responses to student questions Assist students with long-range academic planning
- Elevate complex and unfamiliar student issues to supervisor Monitor academic progress of student caseload
- Proactively support student success through re-enrollment campaigns, retention initiatives, and graduation checks
- Support students in a range of areas, including but not limited to: SAP appeals, completion grants, veteran certification forms, athletic certification, and requests for exceptions to policy
- Use SSC-Navigate to manage caseload, communicate with students, create academic plans, and record advising notes
- Respond promptly to emails and phone calls
- Communicate regularly with departmental leadership and faculty mentors about students’ research/creative interests and their academic and professional goals
- Meet with prospective students and families to support recruitment efforts
- Support recruitment of prospective students

This position is on-site. Work is performed on employer premises or at a designated assignment location. Screening of applications begins on January 8th, and the position will be open until it is filled.
