Region 6 Advising Mentoring Program (RAMP)

RAMP pairs new advisors with a more seasoned advisor for a year of intentional mentorship during which they build relationships, establish and work toward professional goals, and develop a leadership platform with support from their mentor.

Applications for the 2025-2026 cohort are anticipated to launch in January 2025.

Benefits

Mentee

RAMP Mentees benefit from individualized mentorship on everything from NACADA involvement and advising theory to personal identity, workplace dynamics, and career planning. It is the perfect opportunity for new advisors and career changers who are looking for support in their role and added accountability around goals. 

Mentor

Through RAMP, Mentors are able to deepen their involvement, gain leadership skills and give back to the association. The program is an excellent opportunity for advisors interested in supervisory positions to develop the coaching and mentorship skills necessary for success in those roles.

Eligibility

Mentee

The program welcomes anyone who identifies as new to advising, is looking for a support community in the field, and has an interest in deepening their engagement with NACADA. It is not expected that Mentees have a certain amount of experience before participation. Career changers are also welcome to apply. All participants must have an active NACADA membership and currently hold an advising position or other similar role (e.g. career coach, college counselor).

Mentor

The program welcomes anyone who identifies as more seasoned in their role, believes they have something valuable to lend to mentorship, and is committed to supporting the development of a new advisor. It is not expected that Mentors have held any particular type of role, been involved in NACADA in a specific way, or held leadership positions in the past. All participants must have an active NACADA membership and currently hold an advising, advising administration, or other similar position.

Responsibilities

Maintain NACADA membership throughout the Region 6 Advising Mentoring Program (RAMP).

Commit to a year long program, be willing to communicate with Mentor/Mentee on a regular basis, and participate in activities established for RAMP:

  1.  Attend Region Conferences at the start and end of program. (encouraged, not required)

  2.  Meet with Mentor/Mentee monthly. (virtually, over the phone, or in-person) 

  3.  Develop a written plan for Mentee’s professional goals with support and guidance from Mentor.

  4.  Attend virtual orientation and cohort check-ins.

  5.  Assist with promotion of the program.

  6.  Provide feedback at the end of the program documenting the experience and complete an evaluation of the program.
