Retention and Persistence

Academic advising plays a key role in retention, persistence and graduation (RPG) or retention, persistence and completion (RPC) by students.  Retention can be considered an institutional measure of success in getting a student to return to school until completion and persistence can be considered a student measure of success in their chosen program of study.  Over the last decade, more attention has been paid to the role of the academic advisor in helping students to persist, thus affecting overall institutional retention rates.
