A career in athletics advising gives higher education professionals the opportunity to be part of the exciting world of college sports and work with a dedicated, high-achieving population of students. However, this work can come with incredible demands. Advisors in the field face challenges, such as those related to work-life balance and responding to multiple, high-ranking stakeholders. In this event, Dr. Lisa Rubin will discuss her research on athletics advisor well-being and retention. Panelists in the field of athletics advising will then share their experiences, including strategies they have employed to maintain/promote satisfaction and considerations they have taken into account when navigating their careers. The session will conclude with Q&A with attendees. Attendees will also receive a link to relevant research and resources.

Two-Year to Four-Year College Transfer Considerations in Advising Student Athletes

Featuring panelists from two-year and four-year colleges, this event with focus on important considerations when working with student-athletes planning to transfer from a two-year to four-year institution. Panelists will share lessons learned and best practices in hopes of generating productive conversation about how to support both student-athletes and advisors when navigating these often complex transfer situations. Discussion topics may include collaborating/communicating effectively across institutions; strategies in advising student-athletes as to course selection; and PTD and eligibility-monitoring.
