Position Description

East Tennessee State University is looking for a dynamic, visionary leader to serve as the Executive Director for Academic Advising.

Duties

Are you a leader passionate about student success? We have an opportunity for an experienced advising professional to take our support services to the next level. As Executive Director, you will oversee advising campus-wide and champion student retention as a top university priority. Reporting to the AVP of Student Success, you will provide strategic vision and hands-on oversight of our University Advisement Center teams. Through collaboration with deans and assessment of advising practices, you will help ensure every student receives the guidance needed to stay on track. The Executive Director works collaboratively with college advising leaders and advises deans and other senior leaders on increasing retention and graduation rates through enhanced advising. The Executive Director works with university and college advising leadership to ensure accountability for established and shared advising goals, practices, and outcomes across a decentralized but standardized advising system. Qualifications:

Required Qualifications

  • Earned Master’s from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in college-level academic advising, admissions, career counseling, or a related field, to include at least two (2) years in supervisory roles in one or more of these areas.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Terminal degree from a regionally accredited institution
  • Demonstrated success in increasing undergraduate student retention or graduation rates at a higher education institution
  • Experience as an effective college-level academic advisor
  • Demonstrated success in promoting use of electronic student success management systems in a higher education institution to advance student success
  • Experience with using data analytics to inform academic advisement practices in a higher education institution
